Over the years, one of the predominant problems of the Canadian rowing team has been the shortage of top quality boats for training and competition, an aberration that led to the women’s eight winning the bronze medal at the 1977 World Championships in a rented boat built for 200 lb. men.

That problem has been eased thanks to the Canadian National Sportsmen’s Fund, which is presenting four pair oared shells to Canada’s national rowing team. The first shell was christened Show Boat I by Iona Campagnolo, minister of state, fitness and amateur sport, at the recent Sportsmen’s Show in Toronto.

Show Boat I will be used by Betty Craig and Susan Antoft (Champion, Volume 2, Number 1), who are currently preparing for the 1978 Worlds in New Zealand in November.

One of the finest designs in the world, the shell was built by the noted Canadian manufacturer, Kascpher Racing Shells Ltd., of Lucan, Ont.

L’un des problèmes majeurs rencontrés par l’équipe canadienne d’aviron ces dernières années fut incontestablement la pénurie d’embarcations de qualité pour l’entraînement et la compétition.

Malgré cette aberration, l’équipe féminine canadienne remporta une médaille de bronze en huit lors des Championnats du Monde de 1977 . . . dans une embarcation louée, fabriquée pour des hommes pesant 200 lbs. . . .

Mais ce problème semble partiellement résolu, grâce au Canadian National Sportsmen’s Fund qui offre à l’équipe canadienne d’aviron quatre embarcations pour deux rameurs en pointe. La première des embarcations fut baptisée “Show Boat I” par Iona Campagnolo, Ministre d’Etat, Santé et Sport, lors de l’Exposition du Sportif à Toronto.

“Show Boat I” sera mis à la disposition de Betty Craig et Susan Antoft (Champion, Volume 2, Numéro 1), présentement à l’entraînement en vue des Championnats du Monde 1978 qui auront lieu en Nouvelle-Zélande au mois de novembre.

Produites par une firme canadienne reconnue, Kascpher Racing Shells Ltd., de Lucan, Ontario, le design de embarcations compte parmi les meilleurs au monde.
