Letters to the editor / Lettres au rédacteur

TO THE EDITOR:

I would like to thank the people involved in Game Plan who have supported me in my endeavours this year. Without the support of Game Plan, I would not have been able to devote as much time and energy to the sport of badminton.

SURRY, B.C.

TO THE EDITOR:

I really look forward to receiving your interesting and informative publication. As a member of the Gymnastics committee of the Canada Winter Games, to be held in Brandon in February 1979, I have attended various national and international competitions and have taken photos of Monica Goermann, Karen Kelsall and Elfie Schlegel.

If you or any other groups are interested in using these photos, I would be glad to send them to you.

Keep up the excellent work.

CLIVE TAYLOR,
BRANDON, MAN.

TO THE EDITOR:

When Diane Jones Konihowski, Canada’s top pentathlete, moved from Saskatoon to Edmonton in the summer of 1977, she and I wanted to continue our athlete-coach relationship. But special support was essential to enable one or the other of us to travel to training sessions on a regular basis.

We needed funding to travel between Saskatoon and Edmonton every second week and for travel to competitions, especially in Europe.

A proposal was submitted to Sport Canada through the Canadian Track and Field Association, outlining a method of preparation leading to the Commonwealth Games.

After the proposal was accepted, we arranged training sessions at least twice a month — not as effective as daily monitoring of training but much better than nothing at all.

And, of course, the results speak for themselves.

At the Commonwealth Games, Diane won the gold metal in pentathlon, scoring 4762, which is the third performance on the world all-time list. She also ranks third in the world for 1978.

The results show what can be done when concerned groups work together to attain a common goal.

LYLE SANDERSON,
SASKATOON.
