Abby Hoffman

Abby Hoffman — middle distance runner, academie, and sport administrator — has been named director of Sport Canada, effective July 6. A competitor in four Olympic Games, Hoffman was Canadian champion in 800 m from 1962 to 1975. She won gold medals in Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games. Off the track, she holds a Master’s degree in political economy. She has been executive secretary of the Ontario Human Rights Commission; an assistant professor at the University of Guelph; a sport consultant with the Ontario government; and most recently, supervisor of Sport Services for the Ontario Ministry of Culture and Recreation.

Abby Hoffman, universitaire, vedette du demifond et administratrice sportive a été nommée directrice de Sport Canada, à compter du 6 juillet. Elle participa à quatre Olympiades et fut championne canadienne du 800 m de 1962 à 1975. Remportant des médailles d’or aux Jeux pan-américains et aux Jeux du Commonwealth, Abby Hoffman obtint également sa maîtrise en économie politique. Parmi ses postes précédents, mentionnons qu’elle fut secrétaire exécutif de la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne, conseiller sportif auprès du gouvernement de l’Ontario et, plus récemment, contrôleur des Services sportifs du ministère ontarien de la Culture et des Loisirs.
